That Most Evil of Necessary Evils: Publicity

March 25th marked the release of another novel. The pleasure derived from a book release is soon diminished at the realization of the concomitant requirement of publicizing it. People won’t buy the book if they don’t know it exists. I understand that. But it doesn’t mean I enjoy the process.

Especially not interviews. I’ve made no secret of the fact that I don’t enjoy talking about myself, I don’t like to hear the sound of my own voice, and I prefer to answer questions in writing. Glibness is not a quality I can rely upon, it is more often absent than immediately at hand when it would be most useful. Sitting on panels at conventions is one way I force myself to address this limitation. But at least on panels, I am not the subject of discussion.

Anyway, enough complaining. Time to get back to writing and the job search.

Hey, did I mention that I have a book out?
